Step by step

How To Merge PDF Files

Combine as many PDFs as you like — whole files, or just the pages you pick — then download one tidy document.

  1. 1

    Upload your PDFs

Choose your files with the button above, or drag them onto the box. Add as many as you like — the order you drop them in doesn't matter yet, and every file is deleted after 2 hours.

  2. 2

    Arrange the order

In Files view, drag a whole document into place; switch to Pages view to move a single page instead. Reorder sorts every file by name in one click.

The merge workspace: Pages view and Files view toggle, Feedback, thumbnail zoom, Add Files, Add Pages and Reorder, one card per file with its page count, and the Merge PDF files button
  3. 3

    Choose the pages

Click a file to read it page by page and keep only the pages that join the merge; rotate or duplicate any page. Add Pages drops extra files exactly where you want them.

  4. 4

Set the details in More options

The More options button under the files opens the fine details — each one explained right there: double-sided printing, same-size pages, a cover/title file, filenames in the footer, how bookmarks and the table of contents are built, how fillable form fields are handled, and the name the result downloads as.

Missing an option you need? The panel's Send feedback line — and the Feedback chip up in the bar — goes straight to the team.

More options: Pages checkboxes, Bookmarks, Table of Contents, Form Fields and Output name — each with a one-line explanation — and a Send feedback line at the end
  5. 5

    Merge and download

Press Merge PDF files and the finished document opens ready to download, share or print.

  • As many files as you like

Stacks of PDFs become one document — any number of files, any number of pages, in the order you set.

  • Whole files or single pages

Drag full documents around, or open one and take just the pages that belong in the merge.

  • Ready for double-sided

An odd-count document can take a blank page so double-sided printing stays perfectly in step.

  • Fillable forms survive

Keep form fields working, merge duplicates, or flatten them — your choice in More options.

  • Bookmarks and a table of contents

Keep each file's bookmarks, nest them under one entry, or build a fresh table of contents page.

  • Private by default

No account, no watermark — and every file is automatically deleted after 2 hours.

Merge PDF — frequently asked questions

How many PDFs can I merge at once?

As many as your upload limit allows — each file becomes a card and you combine them in the order shown. Drag the cards to reorder before saving, and the pages keep their quality.

What happens to bookmarks and links?

They carry over — each document's outline joins the combined file, and the merge options let you keep every file's bookmarks as its own group, add a table of contents, or discard them.

Can each file's name appear on its pages?

Yes — the “Add filename to page footer” option prints a light footer like “contract.pdf · page 3” at the bottom of each file's pages, handy in bundles where the source must stay identifiable.

Is Merge PDF free?

Yes — Merge PDF is free right here in your browser, with no watermark and no sign-up. Every tool on the site works the same way.

Do I need an account to use Merge PDF?

No. Accounts are optional — they keep your credits, API keys and settings together. The tools work signed-out.

What happens to my file?

Every upload is stored under an unguessable id and deleted automatically after 2 hours. Nothing is listed, shared or emailed anywhere.

Can I run Merge PDF from the API?

Yes — every tool has a REST endpoint. An API call for this tool costs 5 credits per task; browser use stays free. See the Plans & pricing page for plans and the API page for the endpoint list.
